WATER TESTING RESULTS
A new law took effect in January, requiring Illinois schools to test for lead in water used for drinking and cooking.
These tests were recently completed and the only fixture with an elevated level of lead was a kitchen sink at WGS which is only used for ware washing.
Please be assured this fixture will NOT be used for any cooking, fruit/vegetable washing or drinking.

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has reviewed the laboratory results of water samples collected at the school(s) listed above and they appear to satisfy the lead testing requirements outlined in Public Act 99-0922 and the Illinois Plumbing License Law (225 ICLS 320/35.5). If any sample result exceeds 5.0 parts per billion (ppb), you are required to notify parents and legal guardians in writing or via electronic communication and include the location where the sample was collected and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (USEPA) Website for information about lead in drinking water. All other results, including those at or below 5.0 ppb may be posted on your school or district Web site.
While Section 35.5 does not specifically require mitigation, IDPH is requiring the mitigation strategies and requirements contained in the Guidance Document for Mitigating Lead in Schools to be followed for all plumbing fixtures identified with any detectable level of lead. Mitigation should continue until subsequent testing indicates no lead in present in water. In addition, all schools are required to develop, prepare, and establish a Water Quality Management Plan (WQMP). The guidance document for mitigation is enclosed with this letter.
